Keweenaw Brewfest

Keweenaw Brewfest 2019 will be held on Saturday, September 7th from 1-5 PM at the Kestner Waterfront Park (Chutes & Ladders) in Houghton. There will be over 50 different breweries represented with a total of over 200 different beers, hard ciders, and hard sodas. Attendees must be 21 to enter (ID required).

The money raised at the Keweenaw Brewfest is poured back into the community, said Jim Vivian, executive director of the Keweenaw Community Foundation. That includes targets such as relief for the Father's Day flood, the Houghton Skate Park and energy initiatives for non-profits. "The community loves it," he said. "It supports the community."

This year's event, held at the Kestner Waterfront Park, boasted 160 beers from close to 60 breweries, including more than 20 new to the fest, Vivian said. Microbrews come through the area's three distributors --- Peterlin, Pisani and Imperial, Vivian said. "Between these three, you can pretty much get anything in the country --- anything in the world," Vivian said. "It's been very good."

The variety of new selections didn't go unnoticed by Linda Stubenrauch of Laurium. She has come nearly every year since it began. "We get to see people we haven't seen in a while," she said. "We see them once a year at brewfest. We get to try beers without buying a whole six-pack. It's just a nice way to spend an afternoon."
