National Gingersnap Day

National Gingersnap day is celebrated this year on July 1, 2019! Gingersnaps are a healthier alternative to other cookies since they are generally lower in calories than other cookies and have additional benefits. For example, ginger, cinnamon, and clove all have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties and may help fight heart disease. Cinnamon is known to lower the amount of glucose in the bloodstream; ginger helps aid digestion, and cloves also help prevent oral diseases and headaches. Around the world, gingersnaps come in different shapes and sizes. In America, it's much like a sugar cookie, but in Scandinavia, it's more like a wafer. The American version of the gingersnap is a little more like a sugar cookie, while other versions, such as the Scandinavian one, is a small, thin cookie.

The history of the gingersnap goes back for centuries. Ginger dates back to the middle ages, and gingersnaps have long been created in Germany and England. Within our research, we were unable to locate the original creator of this National Day.
