Keweenaw Co-op 45th Birthday Bash

Keweenaw Co-op is celebrating its 45th anniversary with a Community "THANK YOU" BIRTHDAY BASH on Saturday, August 18th from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. Keweenaw Co-op is truly "community owned and operated" starting in 1973 as a pre-order bulk-buying club to provide our community with natural and organic foods that were otherwise not available at that time. Our first home was the back room of "Funky's Karma Cafe" in downtown Houghton (photo below courtesy of Michigan Tech Archives). The Co-op grew quickly, outlived the restaurant and soon moved to a small retail space in Hancock that operated with an all volunteer staff. In 1986, after moving two more times, significantly increasing our product line, and supporting a paid staff, the Co-op moved to the current location and opened as a "full-line grocery store." Today, we remain the exclusive market for goods and services that appeal to consumers who have a meaningful sense of environmental and social responsibility and incorporate those values into their buying decisions. Celebrate with us Saturday, August 18th (1035 Ethel Ave, Hancock) as we THANK the Copper Country for 45 years of support!!!. Enjoy LIVE music from local artists such as the Back Room Boys and Milkman Jamboree. We'll be featuring white and red Sangria as a special wine tasting event with contemporary paintings by local artist Graydon Dagen. FREE samples of our delicious Co-op foods will be available for sampling, along with horse & wagon rides and fun activities for the kids. Mark your calendars and SAVE THE DATE for this special event.
