Olives have been a part of diet in western culture for centuries and for good reason! Observing National Olive Day is a great way to start incorporating them into your diet. Olives are more nutritious than most people realize, providing a natural source of iron.
Olives are grown on trees which typically live for hundreds of years and can either be used as a table fruit or for the production of olive oil, which can have many of the same health benefits provided by eating olives, including the introduction of healthy fats. Olives are exceptional among fruits in that they can be eaten at any time during the ripening process: the turn from green to purple to brown to black.
